    Description

Juan Tafoya San Ildefonso Pueblo Black & Brown Vase Avanyu Design  6.5"
A San Ildefonso Pueblo 6.5" black and brown vase with Avanyu - water serpent wrapped around the middle of vase. Well made and designed, the brown around rim and on middle band are a classic feature of his designs. Just a great looking piece that looks contemporary, rustic or traditional.
The pot had a felt patch attached to bottom, when it was removed, the Juan Tafoya signature came off. Original business card is still with pot.
Excellent condition with no cracks or chips, some very light few scratches to surface - see pictures zoom in to find. 13.5" at widest
    circumference, 1 3/4" wide opening
"He specialized in sgraffito designs where he would chip away at the polished slip to form a textured background for his design, in this instance for the design of the Avanyu (water serpent).  After firing the jar in a reduction firing to achieve a black finish, he then re-oxidized the designed area to bring the black color to sienna." -
